Pocket_WOL Tutorial: Power On Your Home Computer From Anywhere
You can easily turn on your home computer from anywhere using the Pocket_WOL app. This handy tool uses a feature called Wake-on-LAN (WOL). It sends a wireless “magic packet” signal to your PC. This signal tells your sleeping or powered-off computer to wake up instantly.
Leaving your computer running all day wastes a lot of electricity. Pocket_WOL solves this issue so you can fetch files or play games only when needed. 🛠️ Step 1: Prep Your Computer BIOS
Your computer needs to be ready to listen for the wake-up signal. You must turn this on in your computer’s motherboard settings, called the BIOS.
Enter your BIOS: Shut down your PC. Turn it back on and tap F2, F12, or Delete immediately.
Find Power Settings: Look for a tab named Advanced or Power Management.
Turn on WOL: Find a setting called Wake on LAN, Power on by PCIe, or Resume on LAN. Switch it to Enabled.
Save and Exit: Press F10 to save your settings and boot into Windows. ⚙️ Step 2: Configure Windows Settings
Next, you need to tell your internet card in Windows to accept the magic packet.
Open Device Manager: Right-click the Windows Start button and select Device Manager.
Find Network Adapter: Click the arrow next to Network adapters. Double-click your main Ethernet card.
Change Advanced Properties: Go to the Advanced tab. Scroll down and enable Wake on Magic Packet.
Adjust Power Options: Go to the Power Management tab. Check the box that says Allow this device to wake the computer.
Disable Fast Startup: Open your Windows Control Panel. Go to Power Options and click Choose what the power buttons do. Click Change settings that are currently unavailable. Uncheck Turn on fast startup and save. 📝 Step 3: Get Your Computer Details
